This city-centre venue has been serving vegetarian food to residents and visitors for almost three decades now. The vibe may be laid-back, low-key and unassuming, but the foot is award-winning. Customer favourites include Latvian potato bake (£10), Tagine L'Algerienne (£10) or the homemade carrot cake, which Nigel Slater says is the best he has ever tasted (£5).

This healthy hideaway is a must visit

They are the only solely vegetarian restaurant in Cambridge and have won several awards for their food. Like their name, the dishes are colourful and should definitely be washed down with one of the vegan beers or wines. This healthy hideaway is a must visit.

I always enjoy going to the Rainbow Cafe

I always enjoy going to the Rainbow Cafe - they've got a really good range, and all the mains I've tried have been very tasty. Always a good place to stop in for proper, imaginative vegetarian food. Reasonable prices too. Don't be put off by the big poster with an endorsement by Gillian McKeith at the entrance!

Excellent Food, 5 Stars

I lived in Cambridge for 8 years, and the Rainbow Pantry is one of the places I really miss. If I could go there every week, I would, but living on the opposite side of the world now makes it a bit difficult!

Great find next to the National Trust shop. Food is great, with loads of choice. Highly recommend!

This restaurant is the very best for vegetarians in Cambridge

This restaurant is the very best for vegetarians in Cambridge. Its location is also fantastic, if unfortunately underground. I have never ordered a bad dish there, though sometimes the garlic (as with many veggie places) is slightly {ahem} stronger than I like. It is also quite cheap for what it is. They even have veggie beer and wine (ask one of the waiters about this--sometimes alcohol is 'clarified' using fish scales apparently!). The only warning is that the ceilings not only are low, but kind of feel lower than they ought to.
